Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives members of the public the right to access information held by public bodies

22 August 2017 About us

The Environmental Information Regulations 2004, which ensure that environmental information is accessible to the public, also apply to Sport England.

You can find more information about your rights under the Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations on the Information Commissioner’s Office website.

How to make a Freedom of Information request

If you would like to know more about the work we do or access information held by us you should first check to see if the information is available via our Publication Scheme.

If you would like to request information that we do not routinely publish please write to our Information Governance and FOI Manager at the address below:

Sport England
1st Floor, 21 Bloomsbury Street

It is important that you set your request out as clearly as possible to help us identify the information you would like to access. Our Information Governance and FOI Manager can provide help and assistance with making a request.

How we will handle your request

We will acknowledge your request within three working days and provide you with the date by which we expect to respond in full. In most cases we will provide our full response to you within twenty working days of receiving your request.

We try to be as open as possible and provide you with the information you have requested but there may be occasions where we decide to withhold information because it is exempt from disclosure under the FOI Act. If this is the case we will explain the reasons for our decision.

There is a charge of 5p per A4 sheet for the supply of hard copies if the total number of pages requested exceeds 50. In addition we make a fixed charge of £5 for copies of our Asset Register and Gifts and Hospitality Register.

There is no charge for the supply of electronic copies.

Complaints and feedback

If you are unhappy with the service you receive in relation to an information request, or would like to request a review of a decision to withhold information under an exemption in the FOI Act, you can ask us to carry out an internal review. A member of staff who was not involved in considering the original request will undertake the review and inform you of the outcome, usually within twenty working days.

If you are unhappy with the outcome of the internal review and feel that we have not complied with our obligations under the FOI Act, you can complain to the Information Commissioner. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at the address below:

Publication scheme

Our Publication Scheme sets out the information that we routinely make available and explains where or how to obtain that information.

All Sport England publications can be made available in an alternative language, in Braille or large print format or on tape if requested. To request this service please call 08458 508 508.

Disclosure log

Our disclosure log, which provides a list of the requests we have received and a summary of the outcome, is updated on a quarterly basis.

The disclosure log was introduced during 2017. Information about requests prior to this can be obtained from our Information Governance Manager at the address below:
