Summer internships

Our 2018 summer internship programme is now closed

Our internship programme is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience within the sport sector.

Whether you're interested in grants management, research, legal services or volunteering, our internships offer you the opportunity to learn more and apply your skills within the sport sector.

You're able to play a key role within your chosen department and gain an understanding of working life at Sport England.

Check back here in 2019 for information on any future internship opportunities with us.

Who could apply?

Our internships have covered various areas of the organisation and have been open to all students who had at least one year remaining to complete their degree. Whichever business area of Sport England you might be interested in, we have catered for a broad range of interests.

My line manager was great and I couldn't have asked for better. I have absolutely loved the experience and wouldn't change a thing

Our 2018 applicants were able to choose from seven programmes across different areas, including:

  • Core Markets
  • Insight
  • Grants
  • Disability
  • Legal
  • Local Delivery
  • Volunteering

You don't have to be sporty to work at Sport England, either. We're keen to hear from all students, including non-sporty ones, that have the skills and appetite to work in the sport sector.

What would you be doing

Interns have been given a range of interesting and challenging tasks during their 12-week programmes.

Interns have managed their own project, worked with our research team on interpreting data and managed information related to one of our new funding programmes.

Our intern programme is a great benefit to us as an organisation. It helps us get some fresh thinking and different, younger perspectives

Interns have also had a vital role in putting together and carrying out research projects throughout the duration of their internships.

No two days have been the same. We're always keen for interns to take responsibility and work on interesting tasks they can really get their teeth into.

Support and guidance

Interns have been supported along the way by a line manager and our HR team. They have been offered careers training and an opportunity to get out of the office and visit some of the projects we invest in.

They've also had the unique opportunity to gain practical experience that gave them a glimpse into how each team works together as we put our strategy into practice – and work towards an Active Nation.
